EAN 2021 | Updated guidelines for palliative care in advanced MS

Palliative care is under-implemented in patients with progressive neurological disorders, explains Alessandra Solari, MD, Carlo Besta Neurological Institute, Milan, Italy, specifically multiple sclerosis (MS). The EAN guideline on palliative care of people with severe, progressive MS was published in 2020, which gains perspective and insight from clinicians specializing in palliative medicine, neurology and rehabilitation, as well as patients and caregivers. The guideline was developed using the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) methodology, which provides efficient traceability and transparency. The guideline includes 34 recommendations and seven good practice statements, predominantly addressing symptom management. This interview took place during the European Academy of Neurology 2021 congress.
