CONy 2022 | The genetics of epilepsy & treatment availability

Martin Brodie, MD, University of Glasgow, Glasgow, UK, highlights the most prominent research areas in the epilepsy space. Studies into the genetics of epilepsy are looking promising and will provide insights that can help improve pharmacological treatments. Currently, the drugs available for treating epilepsy are anti-seizure medications that don’t cure the condition. Several investigations are underway looking at identifying better medications able to modify the development or progression of epilepsy. Surgery can be an effective method to stop seizures but is not available to many patients. Finding ways to enhance epilepsy care and treatment availability worldwide is of utmost importance. This interview was conducted during the 2022 World Congress on Controversies in Neurology (CONy) meeting.
