CONy 2020 | Epilepsy treatment challenges: pregnancy planning and teratogenic potential

Zeljka Petelin Gadže, MD, PhD, Zagreb University Hospital Centre and School of Medicine, University of Zagreb, Croatia, discusses the challenges in treating epilepsy. It can be a challenge to treat pregnant women due to the teratogenic potential of anti-epileptic drugs, such as valproic acid. A multidisciplinary approach is needed to plan the pregnancy and give drugs with a lower teratogenic risk, such as levetiracetam. This interview took place during the Virtual World Congress on Controversies in Neurology (CONy) 2020.
