ECTRIMS 2022 | Lipids in MS: future research & treatment approaches

Gesine Saher, PhD, Max Planck Institute for Multidisciplinary Sciences, Göttingen, Germany, outlines future research on the role of lipids in multiple sclerosis (MS), as well as their therapeutic potential for MS. Animal studies have shown benefits of lipid-based approaches and studies in MS patients have started; however, it will be relevant to test those interventions in larger cohorts of MS patients. Additionally, further research on the components of foamy macrophages could provide insights into possible lipid-based treatment strategies. This interview took place at the European Committee for Treatment and Research in Multiple Sclerosis (ECTRIMS) Congress 2022 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
