Christian Brandt, MD, Bielefeld University, Medical School, Bielefeld, Germany, talks about the importance of shared decision making in epileptology. Previously, there was not much discussion between the patient and clinician. There is now a movement towards shared decision making, where the doctor presents all the necessary information to the patient in order to discuss and find a shared decision on diagnostic methods and treatment. It is essential that the health care information is provided in simple language to communicate benefits or risks of specific treatments, especially for patients with intellectual or developmental disabilities. This interview took place at the 14th European Epilepsy Congress (EEC) 2022 in Geneva, Switzerland.
