AAN 2022 | LACTRIMS: improving MS diagnosis & treatment in Latin America

Victor Rivera, MD, FAAN, Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, TX, discusses LACTRIMS and its goals towards addressing demyelinating disorders. Dr Rivera was one of the founders of the LACTRIMS association in 1969 – which has grown significantly since. Every country in Latin America belongs to the association, with the official languages being Spanish, Portuguese, and English. This association has been tremendously beneficial towards the understanding and education on multiple sclerosis, NMOSD, and other rarer demyelinating disorders. With increased attention surrounding demyelinating disorders in Latin America, LACTRIMS has set goals to improve the diagnostic and treatment capabilities for the individuals afflicted. This is gradually being implemented and accomplished by the association. This interview took place during the American Academy of Neurology 2022 Congress in Seattle, WA.
