Silvia Fossati, PhD, Temple University, Philadelphia, PA, provides an overview of her presentation at AD/PD 2021 which was focused on amyloid-beta-induced microvascular endothelial cell dysfunction in Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA). She describes her recent research into the effect of different amyloid peptide fragments on endothelial cell function parameters including apoptosis, angiogenesis and blood-brain barrier permeability. It has also been demonstrated that carbonic anhydrase inhibition can block mechanisms associated with mitochondrial dysfunction in endothelial cells and reduces amyloid pathology and cognitive dysfunction in CAA animal models. This interview took place during the AD/PD™ 2021 conference.
