AD/PD 2021 | Timely and accurate diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease as the field evolves

A timely and accurate Alzheimer’s disease diagnosis is essential for the appropriate use of emerging disease-modifying therapies. Marwan Sabbagh, MD, Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health, Las Vegas, NV, discusses the challenges for primary care clinicians and Alzheimer’s disease specialists as novel treatment paradigms and therapies emerge. As the field continues to advance, physicians’ role in Alzheimer’s prevention, diagnosis, and management must evolve accordingly. Yet, the system is not currently well-positioned to do so. To overcome that, several groups have invested in ways to inform physicians how to be more accurate and meticulous in their approach. Prof. Sabbagh believes that the field needs to move away from a diagnosis of exclusion to a diagnosis of inclusion. This interview took place during the AD/PD™ 2021 conference.
