EAN 2022 | Highlights in Parkinson’s disease: subtyping & prodrome

Carlo Colosimo, MD, Santa Maria University Hospital, Terni, Italy, discusses the latest highlights in the Parkinson’s disease field. The complexities of Parkinson’s disease subtyping continue to be a topic discussed by the experts as subtyping can have significant implications, enabling more accurate prognostication and targeted treatment. The pathophysiology of the disease continues to be explored with new concepts emerging, such as the idea that Parkinson’s disease starts lower in the body rather than in the brain. Investigations are also looking at the prodromal phase of the disease to define it better and enable the identification of those patients as they are ideal candidates for novel therapies. This interview took place at the European Academy of Neurology (EAN) 2022 Congress in Vienna, Austria.
