MDS 2021 | PD GENEration: offering remote genetic testing & counselling to patients with PD across the US

PD GENEration: Mapping the Future of Parkinson’s Disease is an initiative offering genetic testing and counselling directly to patients with Parkinson’s disease (PD) across the United States. By offering participation at a number of in-person sites across the country, as well as via telemedicine appointments and at home-test kits, PD GENEration aims to help increase diversity in PD genetic research. As the field moves towards an increasingly personalized management approach where genetic information is used to guide decision making, working with underrepresented and minority populations is of critical importance to ensure the research being conducted is generalizable to all. Bringing participation opportunities to these underrepresented communities is an important step towards achieving appropriate care for all across the globe. This interview took place during the 2021 International Congress of Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders.
