CONy 2022 | The need for novel treatments that can modify the development & progression of epilepsy

Despite the increasing number of available antiseizure drugs, drug-resistant epilepsy remains an unmet need. Martin Brodie, MD, University of Glasgow, Glasgow, UK, shares the latest updates in the development of novel treatments that can modify the development or progression of epilepsy. Treating epilepsy before seizures become too prevalent is challenging; for instance, a better understanding of the causes of epilepsy is needed to develop therapies to halter disease progression or even prevent the development of epilepsy. As the field advances, individualized treatment should be the primary objective. This interview was conducted during the 2022 World Congress on Controversies in Neurology (CONy) meeting.
