AAN 2022 | Telemedicine in headache care: a cohort study

Chia-Chun Chiang, MD, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN, discusses a study conducted alongside the American Migraine Foundation to investigate patient experiences and perspectives on telemedical visits. In March of 2020, many institutions canceled the elective procedures and clinic visits due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Telemedicine consultations were implemented to be used in headache clinical visits for both new and subsequent visits. As part of the study, 15 questions were devised with the American Migraine Foundation, and data were acquired through e-mail and social media platforms. There were 1172 participants who responded – with more than 50% of the cohort utilizing telemedicine for subsequent visits and 15% for new visits. Satisfaction rates were at 83%, inferring a generally positive reaction towards telemedicine – with 90% stating they would like to continue with telemedicine post-pandemic. This interview took place at the American Academy of Neurology 2022 Congress in Seattle, WA.
