AHS 2022 | Benefits of using AI technology to detect AF in migraine patients

Chia-Chun Chiang, MD, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN, discusses the significance of artificial intelligence (AI) technology in the atrial fibrillation prediction model of migraine with and without aura. This novel AI-ECG algorithm tool was compared to a traditional, non-invasive ECG test. It was found that the AI-ECG algorithm could provide a probability of atrial fibrillation (AF) from a single ECG, allowing for the identification of patients at high risk of AF. Therefore, these individuals were able to undergo prolonged cardiac monitoring or start anti-thrombotic agents as a preventive measure. It can be difficult and time-consuming to detect these individuals simply through an ECG and follow-up procedures. However, the AI-ECG prediction model allows for mass testing for the probability of AF occurrence in migraine patients with and without aura.
