EAN 2022 | Identifying Parkinson’s disease therapies: defining subtypes

Tiago Outeiro, PhD, University Medical Center Göttingen, Göttingen, Germany, discusses the efforts required to identify preventive or curative therapies for Parkinson’s disease (PD). Research should continue to focus on understanding the underlying biology of the disease. While PD has traditionally been categorized based on an individual’s clinical characteristics, there is an increasing need to stratify patients based on biological characteristics. Identifying defined patient subgroups with underlying biology that would make them suitable for the intervention being assessed would have important implications on clinical trials and targeted treatment approaches. This interview took place at the European Academy of Neurology (EAN) 2022 Congress in Vienna, Austria.
