MDS 2020 | Dystonia: developments in diagnostics, genetics and treatment

Susanne Schneider, MD, PhD, University Hospital Munich, Munich, Germany, discusses the new definition and classification system proposed for dystonia. The system is based on two main axes: clinical characteristics and etiology. Prof. Schneider also discusses the recent genetic developments in dystonia and the new genes that are described. Current techniques have identified new genetic candidates that cause the disease as well as the involvement of additional mutations in complex phenotypes. Finally, Prof. Schneider touches upon treatment approaches for dystonia and its comorbidities. This interview was recorded during an online conference call with The Video Journal of Neurology (VJNeurology).
