ESOC 2022 | Causes of sex differences in stroke presentation and care

Mariam Ali, Medical Student, PhD Student, Leiden University Medical Center, Leiden, & Amsterdam University Medical Center, Amsterdam, The Netherlands, discusses potential causes of differences in stroke presentation and care between men and women. Biological differences mean females have a propensity for different subtypes of stroke compared to males, more often experiencing subarachnoid hemorrhage or cardioembolic stroke. These differences in subtype likely explain the differences in clinical presentation between men and women. Gender stereotypes may also impact stroke care. This interview took place at European Stroke Organisation Conference 2022 in Lyon, France.
