FENS 2020 | Lack of female representation in neuropsychiatric research

Christina Dalla, PhD, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Athens, Greece, discusses the under-representation of females in psychiatric research despite suffering twice as much from neuropsychiatric disorders including depression, anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Prof. Dalla reveals that the vast majority of preclinical drug testing is done in male animals. In clinical studies, although many include men and women, there is often no statistical analysis of the sex of the participants. This interview was recorded during an online conference call with The Video Journal of Neurology (VJNeurology).
