ESOC 2022 | Perfusion imaging in the acute stroke setting: current modalities and future opportunities

Pierre Seners, MD, PhD, Rothschild Foundation Hospital, Paris, France, discusses the use of perfusion imaging in the acute stroke setting. CT and MRI are commonly used techniques to delineate the irreversibly damaged tissue (ischemic core) from the severely hypoperfused ischemic penumbra which is at risk of progressing to infarction but may be salvageable. Perfusion imaging can help to rule out stroke mimics and confirm the occurrence of ischemic stroke, as well as identifying patients who are most likely to benefit from certain therapies. Dr Seners comments on the trade-off between obtaining more information and delaying treatment and the controversy surrounding this issue. This interview took place at European Stroke Organisation Conference 2022 in Lyon, France.
