AD/PD 2023 | Brain imaging signatures to predict conversion risk in iRBD

It is difficult to predict whether patients with isolated REM behavioral disorder (iRBD) will develop dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB) or Parkinson’s disease (PD) early on. Shady Rahayel, PhD, Montreal Neurological Institute and Hospital (McGill University), Montreal, Canada, discusses the potential of brain signatures derived from structural MRI scans in determining the likelihood of a patient with iRBD developing DLB or PD. This would be useful for early intervention and personalized medicine based on individual risk. More studies are needed to validate this brain signature, with larger cohorts of patients with iRBD and longer follow-up evaluations. This interview took place at the AD/PD™ 2023 congress in Gothenburg, Sweden.
