CONy 2020 | Using ultrasound to classify plaques before treatment

Laszlo Csiba, MD, PhD, DSci, University of Debrecen, Debrecen, Hungary, discusses using ultrasound to classify plaques before commencing procedures. By using ultrasound, plaques can be determined to be either smooth or ulcerated. If the plaque is smooth then the normal stenting procedure can commence. However, if the plaque is ulcerated, then an invasive procedure could produce an artificial stroke distally from the stroke site by dislodging part of the thrombus. This interview took place during the Virtual World Congress on Controversies in Neurology (CONy) 2020.
