MDS 2022 | Poststroke movement disorders: challenges & future research

Sanjay Pandey, MD, Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital, New Delhi, India, shares an overview of the current understanding of poststroke movement disorders and describes current efforts to improve the care of patients that develop movement disorders after stroke. Poststroke movement disorders are a common cause of secondary movement disorders. The onset of movement disorders varies significantly between patients and types of movement disorders and increases the disability of patients. Therefore, an accurate diagnosis and treatment are essential to prevent an increase in morbidity and mortality. Various collaborations are working on projects looking to improve the diagnosis and treatment of poststroke movement disorders, including neuroimaging studies, the development of a rating scale, and new clinical trials. This interview took place at the 2022 International Congress of Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders in Madrid, Spain.
