AAN 2021 | Retinal structure and function correlation in MS

Steven Galetta, MD, FAAN, NYU Langone Medical Center, New York, NY, discusses the post hoc analysis of RENEW (NCT01721161) and RENEWED (NCT02657915), determining whether structural/functional changes in the retina may predict long-term visual outcomes in multiple sclerosis (MS). Dr Galetta emphasizes that structural changes correlate with functional changes, meaning that when patients have a functional disability, they tend to have structural abnormalities. Finally, Dr Galetta gives examples of tests to unravel these structure-function correlations and highlights the possible translation to therapeutic approaches. This interview took place during the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) 2021 Annual Meeting.
