MDS 2022 | α-synuclein seed amplification assay for diagnosing Parkinson’s disease

Tiago Outeiro, PhD, University Medical Center Göttingen, Göttingen, German, comments on the results from the Parkinson Progression Marker Initiative (PPMI) study on an α-synuclein seed amplification assay (SAA). In a recent study, the assay showed positive detection results in prodromal cases of Parkinson’s disease. Notably, those promising results suggest that SAA could be an important tool to aid in the diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease. This interview took place at the 2022 International Congress of Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders in Madrid, Spain.
