ARUK 2018 | Synapse loss and cognitive decline in ALS: a common feature with Alzheimer’s?

Loss of synaptic integrity is associated with the pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease; however, it is also associated with cognitive decline in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Here, Tara Spires-Jones, BA, BSc, MSc, PhD, of the University of Edinburgh, Edinburgh, UK, discusses the interesting question of whether synapse degeneration may serve a role is the development of ALS, and whether synapse integrity could predict whether those with ALS may also suffer from cognitive decline. This video was recorded at the Alzheimer’s Research UK Conference 2018, held in London, UK.
