ECTRIMS 2022 | The use of internet-based technology in multiple sclerosis

Yael Goverover, OTR/L, PhD, New York University, New York, NY, discusses the role of technology-based rehabilitation in people with multiple sclerosis (MS) and shares recent studies evaluating the use of internet-based technology by people with MS. The use of internet-based technology is an important component of everyday living. However, patients with MS face more barriers to use than healthy individuals. Some of the barriers identified include cognitive impairment, the speed of technological advances, and lack of training. In terms of technology-based rehabilitation interventions, these can be utilized to train patients with MS on how to use technologies and share with patients the different aspects of technology that could help them in everyday life. Technology approaches could also be used to assess their performance on daily life tasks and provide rehabilitation treatment. This interview took place at the European Committee for Treatment and Research in Multiple Sclerosis (ECTRIMS) Congress 2022 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
