Elizabeth Coon, MD, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN, describes advances and upcoming developments in synucleinopathies such as multiple system atrophy (MSA). Despite nomenclature-related issues, improvements in the understating of alpha-synuclein aggregation has led to enhanced diagnosis and treatment of MSA and has enabled clinicians to differentiate MSA from other conditions such as Lewy body disorders.
