Yaroslav Winter, MD, Mainz Comprehensive Epilepsy and Sleep Medicine Center, Johannes Gutenberg University, Mainz, Germany, describes the distinction between acute symptomatic seizures occurring within the first 7 days after the onset of a stroke and late seizures occurring 7 days or more after onset. Dr Winter also comments on the differences in treatment strategies for early seizures compared to late seizures.
