Susanne Schneider, MD, PhD, University Hospital Munich, Munich, Germany, discusses the importance of genetic testing for diagnosing and treating patients with dystonia. An increasing number of clinical trials require a molecular diagnosis to generate a homogenous cohort. Therefore, patients need genetic testing if they want to enroll in clinical trials. Additionally, genetic testing is important to treat the cause of the disease and for family planning.
