AAN 2021 | The rising utility of genetic testing in Parkinson’s disease

Jennifer Verbrugge, MS, CGC, LGC, Indiana University School of Medicine, Indianapolis, IN, discusses the growing utility of genetic testing and genetic counseling for patients with Parkinson’s disease (PD). No targeted treatments are currently approved for clinical use in PD, but substantial research efforts are dedicated to understanding the impact of genetic factors on disease development and clinical characteristics. Testing and counseling are likely to become beneficial as trials are beginning to enroll patients with specific genetic variations. This interview took place during the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) 2021 Annual Meeting.
