Gijs Kooij, PhD, Amsterdam UMC, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, Amsterdam, Netherlands, describes the role of lipids in multiple sclerosis (MS). Bioactive lipid mediators such as omega-3 fatty acids are involved in the regulation of immune responses. In the MS space, lipids could be used either as biomarkers of treatment efficacy or conversion of disease phases and as treatment modalities. Recent findings from animal models supported the administration of lipids in animals with decreased lipid levels to protect and improve the clinical signs associated with the disease. This interview took place at the European Committee for Treatment and Research in Multiple Sclerosis (ECTRIMS) Congress 2022 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
