AAN 2022 | Paving the way to cerebrovascular health equity

Bruce I. Ovbiagele, MD, MSc, FAAN, University of California, San Francisco, CA, highlights the key stages on the path to achieving cerebrovascular health equity. To overcome health inequities and neurological disparities, there is a need to recognize their extent and the communities and social contexts in which they occur, as well as designing effective, scalable interventions and building the capacity to implement these strategies. Dr Ovbiagele shares an overview of the disparities that exist, spanning race, gender, socioeconomic status, and geographic region. One major area of emphasis is the role of social determinants of cerebrovascular health and psychosocial stress, which are thought to significantly impact incidence and mortality in cerebrovascular disease. This interview took place at the American Academy of Neurology 2022 Congress in Seattle, WA.
