CONy 2021 | Emerging biomarkers in FTD: emotional, social cognition & language deficits

Adolfo Garcia, PhD, University of San Andrés, Buenos Aires, Argentina, talks on emerging biomarkers in frontotemporal dementia (FTD) in particular less commonly assessed domains. There is a well-justified emphasis in assessing social cognition skills in behavioral variant frontotemporal dementia and focuses on language deficits in linguistic variants of FTD. However, the focus on the primary and predominant deficits of each disorder can overshadow other domains that are also affected at the early stages of the disease and can significantly affect the patient’s functionality and disease characterization. Dr Garcia highlights the role of emotional and social cognition deficits in primary progressive aphasia variant and language deficits in behavioral FTD. This interview was conducted during the virtual 2021 World Congress on Controversies in Neurology (CONy) meeting.
