Accelerating time to treatment: new approaches to pre-hospital and in-hospital stroke care

Stroke is a highly time-sensitive clinical event and as such, optimizing workflow is of critical importance, even before a patient reaches the hospital. Transfer protocols are being revised to improve access to thrombectomy for patients. The flying intervention team, direct to mothership angiography suite, and mothership expert to patient are models being assessed for their feasibility and effectiveness, compared to the conventional drip-and-ship model. In addition to this, mobile stroke units are being increasingly studied and implemented for their prehospital stroke diagnosis and treatment capabilities.
